Sponsoring Relatives To Canada
Q. I have a nephew I am supporting and want him to come to Canada. He is the son of my brother who abandoned his family when the boy was still a child. He has a high school diploma and has had several odd jobs. He’s 23 and that makes it a poor ground for adoption. Also, I am aware that he cannot qualify for an independent immigrant.
But a friend of mine has recently sponsored her niece to Canada. I don’t know how that worked, but if you know of any way you can help me bring my nephew here, it would be appreciated.
A. Since your nephew is of legal age, then he must qualify through his own merit. In a lot of cases, a relative located in Canada can add points to his application, but it is not considered as a sponsorship.
A post secondary diploma or a college degree and some work experience is required to qualify. Your nephew won’t qualify for that category. What you can do is to sponsor your nephew under the family class category. However, you have to note that to qualify to this category, the sponsor (you) must be totally alone. This means that you do not have any other immediate family to sponsor.Only then can you choose any relative regardless of age to sponsor. This is probably your best option to bringing your nephew to Canada.
Live In Caregiver Open Work Permit Question
Q. I have sent in my application for permanent residency under the live in caregiver program. The thing is, my work permit has expired and I got the information that I don’t need to renew it until I get my permanent residency. Is this true? Also, I want to transfer to another company. Do I need to secure a new work permit or should I wait for my resident visa?
A. It is important that you be aware of all the technicalities that can happen, lest your Canada permanent residency application gets refused. A valid work permit is one requirement to be eligible for the permanent residency permit. During the time of your application, did you have an open work permit? If not, then it must be renewed as soon as possible. If you had an open work permit when you applied, then you don’t need to renew your work permit as long as your work for the same employer. If you want to change employers, then you need to get a new work permit.
Spouse Sponsorship Refused
Q.The sponsorship application for my wife was denied. Several personal questions regarding our relationship were asked during her interview with the Canadian embassy. I have a feeling that my wife was nervous when she got interviewed because she had no experience being interviewed by anyone. I’m confused — was it better if I went with her? I really thought that the interview was not something to be worried about and she can get her visa immediately. Now, I don’t know what do to.
A. When the embassy requires an interview, it isn’t merely to chat about trivial things. There is a definite purpose of doing so and for a spousal application, they are trying to see if the relationship is real or if it is something for convenience. During the interview, you have to make them see that the relationship is real. If you need to go with her, then it is up to you. But since the application has been refused, you have up to 30 days to appeal it.

Looking for a nanny?
hi,
In the coming year, I’d like to hire my mother as a live-in caregiver, so she can quickly rejoin me in Canada and help me and my husband raise our baby. The alternative is too lengthy, 3 years of processing time for the sponsorship application (for a dependent).
I understand the income restrictions, but are there also age restrictions? My mother is fluent in French, semi-fluent in English, and has a master’s degree. She’s also a 70 years old retired head-nurse.
My other question is, is it legal for me to sponsor her for permanent residency (as my dependent) while she works for me as live-in care giver?
How long will it takes to process the LMO, working permit and visa for a live-in caregiver program in the Philippines, in the USA and in Canada?
Hi, just want to ask how long is the typical processing time to get Permanent Residency status for a live-in caregiver after you’ve completed the 2 yrs work tenure requirement? Is it true that it will take a minimum of 18 long months if you want to include your family in the application who are residing abroad?
Thank you very much and hope to hear from you soon.
More power to you!

Hi…
I’m form Mexico… I’m aplied two times for a work permit under the live-in caregiver program.. I had everything the LMO, and the experience, unfortunately the canadian embassy refused me both times.. because they did’nt believe my experience.
In my country (Mexico) nobody pays taxes for a nanny and all the people pay cash. That is not my fault buy they didn’t understand. They suggested i need take a 6 months trainnig or work 1 year like a nanny and receive pay (if i have the experience is the same because i can’t get the taxes is Mexicoooooo)
Anyways.. I want to know if i apply for a student visa for take the trainnig for 6 months in canada, can i have some possibilities to get the visa?
im having my speak test on friday.what frequent question do they ask? thank you very much
Can an elderly dementia individual be the sponsor for the caregiver program? What resposibilities do the employers have? How would the contract be terminated if the individual is no longer able to be sound mind and body?

We’re thinking sponsoring a live-in caregiver from the Philippines to take care of our two children.
