New Rules In The Temporary Foreign Worker Program Caused 74% Drop In Applications

The Temporary Foreign Worker program underwent a major reform early this year, one that was done to ensure that the program will be a last resort for foreign workers and that Canadians will be given priority when it comes to jobs.

The changes were introduced last June, and they made applications more difficult and the screening process more stringent for applicants.

After the announcement and implementation of those changes, there has been a marked reduction in the number of employers applying for the program.

The reported drop was as high as 74% last August compared to the number of application during the same month two years ago, in the year 2012.
